THE minimum temperature in Baguio City rose Wednesday morning from 10 degrees Celsius to 11.4 degrees Celsius to the relief of the young and old residents who either stayed indoors for the past six days to avoid cold weather-associated ailments when the mercury dropped low to 8.1 degrees Celsius.

The normal temperature range in the city is from 12 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Letty Dispo, weather forecaster at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, said the rise of the temperature here could be temporary with the effect of the dissipating low pressure area north of Mindanao.

However, Dispo said the icy Siberian winds next month is expected to be more intense from the Artic region with melting ice.

During the past six days, the maximum temperature here did not exceed 15 degrees Celsius as the sun was covered the whole daytime by thick mist, if not for alternating and almost stationary clouds and mist.

Old and young residents are the ones who mostly suffer during the cold weather due to viral upper respiratory infections as well as rheumatism.

The Department of Health, through assistant regional director Amelita Pangilinan, continues to coordinate with schools in order to remind parents to keep their children warm providing thick clothing and strengthen their immune system by taking food rich in vitamin C. (Aure Galacgac)
