BAGUIO City Police Office director Senior Superintendent Jesus Cambay Jr. will remain as the city's top cop and serve his remaining tour of duty until September.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan told reporters Wednesday he brokered for the police chief's retention in office in a recent dialogue with Police Regional Office-Cordillera director Chief Superintendent Isagani Nerez.

This after the City Mayor’s Office was informed in a February 18 letter of Police Regional Office-Cordillera regional director Chief Superintendent Isagani Nerez that Cambay will be replaced by PRO-Cordillera Regional Operations and Plans Division chief Senior Supt. Rolando Miranda effective March 1.

The city mayor said he believes the intention of Nerez to replace Cambay is only for the good of Baguio City as the regional director aired his concerns of peace and order in the city.

Domogan stressed choosing Cambay underwent a rigorous process composed of a committee who interviewed, screened and recommended for the appointment of the police chief.

Domogan said peace and order concerns such as rising criminality were already forwarded to Cambay for appropriate action with the police chief promising immediate action on several concerns raised by the police regional director.

The news of Cambay’s planned transfer earlier than his tour of duty of two years recently sparked an outpouring of support coming from the City Council that came up with a resolution calling for the retention of the police chief.

The police chief is supposed to end his tour of duty on September 2014.
The mayor also disclosed aside from the council, the business sector such as the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio and the Association of Barangay Councils also expressed support to the retention of the city’s police chief.

At the Panagbenga Festival highlights assessment and press conference last Wednesday at Session Road, Cambay said he respects his superiors and as a good soldier he will abide with whatever decision or order is given him by his superiors.
