THE Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council will spearhead its first quarter region-wide simultaneous earthquake drill tomorrow, March 19.

This as OCD-Cordillera director Andrew Alex Uy called on the public to join the nationwide drill stressing preparedness during big and unexpected disasters.

Uy added the drill will also gauge the efficiency of warning dissemination and response capability of the disaster risk reduction and management of council and school committees.

“Earthquake strikes without warning. As disaster risk reduction managers, the Cordillera Regional DRRMC in partnership with Provincial or Local DRRM Offices, will continue to rehearse the discipline of readiness by ensuring the familiarization of the earthquake preparedness and instilling proper evacuation procedures in times of emergencies," the OCD-CAR press statement added.

Uy said DRRM Councils nationwide continue to stress the significance of advanced planning and employing the best course of action during evacuation.

An estimated 45,000 participants in the region are expected to join the drill.

According to the agency’s recent press statement, the need to enhance the level of earthquake preparedness of the community is now a matter of urgency.
