Former city admin Taguba passes on-A A +A

FORMER activist, political detainee and city administrator Jose Tumilas Taguba was buried Saturday morning in the family lot along Tacay Rd., Pinsao Proper Barangay here.
He passed on at 73 early hour of March 18 after a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife, former regional education director Remedios (nee Kay-an), children Frank and Elvira, and Marilou and Clarence, grandchildren Aviron (Aggapen), Chelsea Leona (Gokay) Valerie Jane (Chuwaley), Adrian Clar (Sibaen), Cordelia (Mad-an) and Joeina Faith (Dammi), brother Cesar and sisters Isabel and Grace.
Taguba served as city administrator and secretary to Mayor Mauricio Domogan. A native of Adaoay, Kabayan, Benguet, he studied at the Tuba Elementary School and finished high school and his degree in Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Baguio.
He was back in school as a student activist during the Marcos regime.
After martial law was declared, he was arrested and detained for about three years. After his release from prison, he opened a carpentry/furniture shop.
In 1992, he joined the establishment, serving as secretary to mayor Domogan until 1998. The year after, he took his masteral degree in business enterprise at the Asian Institute of Management and then returned to city hall as city administrator and action officer of the City Disaster Coordinating Council.
As environmentalist, he advocated the planting of bamboo for erosion control along waterways and precipitous areas of the city. (Ramon Dacawi)
