LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Music may bring in books for a Kalinga town.
Berdeng Karunungan founder Dhobie De Guzman said the staging of "Music for Life" is set at the YMCA, April 12.
The event will feature local musicians and performers who will perform for the night for the benefit of the cause.
Berdeng Karunungan aims to establish a library-museum in Pasil town in Kalinga through donations of used books for the project.
The organization, after a successful donation drive in February, collected 9,000 books from benefactors who responded during the Baguio Flower Festival’s Session Road in Bloom.
The United States Embassy is also supporting the book drive.
De Guzman is one of the alumni of the United States Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program on Investigative Journalism in America four years ago.
La Trinidad Mayor Edna Tabanda is also an alumnus of the same leadership program.
The musical and dinner concert is set to raise funds for the shipment of books and eventual establishment of a community library in a remote town in Kalinga, providing books aim the jumpstart knowledge.
Aside from the book drive, the group also advocates for family revitalization, cultural and environmental preservation.
The event entitles a participant to a P500 meal ticket and a night with local performers in cooperation with Brixio Production.
Pasil is a fifth class municipality in the province of Kalinga. It has a population of 9,626 people.
