LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Development of tourism highways is a top priority here.

Governor Nestor Fongwan said infrastructure projects in the province are underway to cater to tourists, adding “this [tourism] is one of the industries which keeps bolstering the economy.”

Fongwan said it has been proven that a thriving tourism industry triggers economic growth.

Destinations in the province have been spruced up with improved services and amenities.

Fongwan said a Police COMPAC worth P1 million has been constructed on the Mount Pulag reservation to keep the peace and maintain police visibility
in the area.

Arrivals in the area reach hundreds at a time, prompting the governor to establish the police facility.

A P700,000-view deck in the Bannagan area in Sablan has also been completed where visitors are given the chance to catch a glimpse of the China Sea.

Fongwan said eco-tourism is an emerging market for the province and a fast becoming favorite for visitors.

Another view deck at kilometer 73 gives a view of the Loo Valley. The structure is also worth P700,000 while comfort rooms at the Atok half tunnels were recently completed.

The governor said another view deck is being constructed at the Benguet-Mountain Province boundary. All infrastructure projects are being funded by the provincial government.

Fongwan said he does not want tourism to suffer in terms of amenities and infrastructure, assuring needs are being addressed.
