DISMAYED by the news on Mark Go’s nomination made by the Liberal Party (LP) Baguio City chapter without his involvement, Representative Nicasio Aliping called for a meeting on Friday afternoon to address issues.

LP members were expected to discuss matters on party chairmanship, nomination for the City Council vacancy, and other concerns.

Unfortunately, for some reasons, Vice Mayor Edison Bilog, Councilors Isabelo Cosalan and Faustino Olowan, and Go were absent.

Aliping said they should be united in every decision they have to make.

“Don’t I have the right to be informed of whatever activities the Liberal Party in the City of Baguio has?” he asked.

“I don’t claim immediately to be the chairman, but in what’s going on, I should have been informed,” the lawmaker added.

Former mayoral candidate Jose Molintas and Councilor Leandro Yangot maintained Aliping underwent the correct process of joining the party.

They said even the LP president and Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Abaya and LP secretary general Mel Sarmiento recognize Aliping’s chairmanship in Baguio.

Aliping, however, still do not want to talk about the chairmanship unless he is officially designated.

“I will hold my breath until I have the official designation,” he said.

Aliping said he does not object Go's nomination to the City Council. But to be fair with the other LP members, especially those who showed interest in the post, he wanted to look at the parameters used in considering him for the position.

Aliping said he was one of the officials who signed the endorsement of Lilia Fariñas, widow of the late Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas, for the vacancy in the City Council.

On questions about her party affiliation, the city representative suggested that whoever the chairman is can swear her in LP.

But first, Aliping said LP members still have to settle the chairmanship issue before making an official declaration of the party's nominee to the council.
