AFTER a contentious week, Vice Mayor Edison Bilog took his seat as the presiding officer of the City Council session May 19, Monday.

Around 30 items from the agenda were discussed and approved during the session, which included the confirmation and appointment of now head of the City Planning and Development Office Engr. Evelyn Cayat; the privilege speech delivered by Councilor Leandro Yangot calling for reexamination of how tourism and cultural events, particularly the Panagbenga Festival, are being managed; several matters proposed by Mayor Mauricio Domogan; and requests and ordinances by the different committees of the City Council.

Keeping his eye on the ball during the discussion, the vice mayor, however, granted media an interview after the extended Council session, which was adjourned later than 5 p.m.

Bilog addressed issues surrounding the local Liberal Party stressing Marques Go, Faustino Olowan, himself and Isabelo Cosalan continue to be the leaders of the local chapter with Go as chairman.

He said Representative Nicasio Aliping Jr., who took oath as a Liberal Party member several months after winning the election, has not yet been officially designated as chairman of the local LP.

"Sa ngayon kasi wala pa yung appointment niya or acknowledgement na siya yung local chairman dito," Bilog said.

However, Bilog stressed he will recognize the city rep's chairmanship if granted by the national leadership of the Liberal Party.

This as he upheld the nomination of Go as the 12th member of the City Council.

"Pinapanindigan pa rin natin na si Mark Go, para sa aming grupo, ang best at dapat lang makaupo sa ating City Council," he said.

He added the official appointment may come out any time now.

"Kung sino man [kina Go at Lilia Fariñas] ang i-appoint ng ating Presidente, through the executive secretary, sana galangin natin ang desisyon," Bilog said.

He admitted LP members still have to discuss problems plaguing their party and expressed he is willing to settle their issues.

"At the end of the day, magkakaisa at magkakaisa kami niyan para palakasin ang partido namin," Bilog said.
