THE City Planning and Development Office of Baguio welcomed Engr. Evelyn Cayat as its new department head, after the City Council confirmed her appointment in a session held Monday.

The former officer-in-charge was grilled by members of the City Council where she was asked about everything from her personal profile to her plans and capabilities before the official confirmation.

"I am very happy. At least yung mga accomplishments natin ay nakita naman nila," Cayat said after her appointment.

The new department head highlighted her contributions in the comprehensive land use plan, which now uses the geographical information system (GIS), comprehensive development plan, annual investment plan, hazard mapping and the preparation of the local shelter plan.

She acknowledged it is a major challenge for her to make further improvements in planning with the use of a more advanced technology.

Protecting the environment, decongestion, issues on ancestral land ownership and overdevelopment are those she listed her priorities presently.

"I will do my best to do my job as head of the planning office and for the development of Baguio City," she said.

Aside from assurances she made before the City Council she upheld to protect government properties against illegal in nature development projects; will protect the green grounds against commercialization; and will never let herself be controlled by anyone, she also swore she will continue what she has started along with the people in her office.

"Let's work more, let's do more," she said.

Cayat started in the City Planning and Development Office of Baguio in 1990 as a Planning Officer – III. In 1992, she was promoted as Planning Officer – IV. She also became an acting assistant City Planning officer in 2007 and later on became the OIC in 2010.

She was endorsed by Mayor Mauricio Domogan as a regular department head of the office only last month.
