THE Bureau of Internal Revenue – Cordillera Administrative Region said it has collected P1,488,068,553.11 as of January to April this year.

The regional office registered an increase of 20.23 percent or P250,343,168.56 compared to the same period last year.

However, Regional Director Eduardo Bajador said that from the target collection for the first four months set by the National Statistics and Coordination Board at P1,000,512,646, the collection fell short of P24,577,446 or 1.62 percent.

“But this can be explained by the fact that income taxes which mostly are from compensation income earners are remitted as early as January,” he stressed, adding as early as November last year, year-end adjustments were made and whatever amount still due and collectible were remitted the following month.

The regional director added he is pleased the Baguio City Revenue District Office has been consistently exceeding the target for 2014.

As far as other districts are concerned, Bajador claimed the bulk of collection came from compensation income earners because they are mainly dependent on Tax Remittance Advice from government agents and likewise withholding from compensation of employees.

Except for Bontoc, Mt. Province, Bajador said the other district offices were unable to meet their targets.

Bajador remains hopeful BIR-CAR will be able to increase the tax collection and meet this year's goal.

Although he admitted he has no idea yet of the regional office’s ranking in terms of collection, he shared the growth in tax collection is fairly significant.
