IN ITS effort to invite more voters to register and validate their voting status, the Commission on Election (Comelec)-Baguio City launched its satellite registration at the City Hall.

Election Officer John Paul Martin said a series of offsite registration in the different barangays of the City will be held for the voter's convenience.

"It spares them money and time to go out and register at our office," he said.

Comelec has already convened with different barangay officials regarding the conduct of off-site registration every Sunday until November.

Martin said they are now waiting for the members of Association of Barangay Councils for the final scheduled off-site registrations in the different barangays.

City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, who was among the voters who validated his biometrics during the offsite registration, said voter should take advantage of the satellite validation since it is the right of everyone to vote.

Martin said there are still around 29,000 voters who have no biometrics will not be able to vote if no validation will be made before the May 2016 elections.

Registrants from 1997 to 2002 should also have their biometrics taken as the registration at that time was manual.

In addition, Martin shared registrants up to year 2005 should also validate their voting status to check whether their files on the Comelec's system have been corrupted or not.

The election officer encouraged the public, whether new or old voters to come at their office or any of their off-site registrations to register, update, re-activate and validate their voting status as early as they can.

Martin said it is important for the voters to go to Comelec as early as possible to prevent congestion on the last minute of registration on October 2015.

Aside from the off-site registration to be held in the different areas of the city, voters may still visit the Comelec office Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Giovani Joy Fontanilla)
