Mediamen cited in BARP’s anniversary

A TOTAL of 10 media practitioners from print, broadcast and television received the Kafagway Journalism Leadership and Services Award recently.

The award rites were part of the 15th year anniversary of the Blessed Association of Retired Persons Foundation Inc. during the weekend at the Burnham Park athletic oval grandstand in partnership with the National Correspondents Club of Baguio and in cooperation with the Philippine Information Agency-CAR.

Awarded from the print media were Roderick Osis, managing editor of Sun.Star Baguio; Hannah Lacsamana, staff member of the Baguio Midland Courier, Lito Camero Jr., managing editor of Amianan Balita Ngayon and Marilou Guieb, correspondent of Business Mirror and a columnist of Baguio Chronicle.

Awardees in Television were Kay Carmen Zalavaria, Reporter, ABS-CBN TV Patrol Northern Luzon and Darius Bajo, Cameraman-editor, GMA Balitang-Amianan.

Radio broadcasters who were also feted were Bombo Radyo Baguio station manager Jordan Tablac, DZEQ - Radyo ng Bayan Baguio station manger Alejandro Amadeo, news anchor – reporter Mary Langtawan from MPBC - DZWT 540 and DZRH correspondent Primo Aurelio Agatep.

The awardees were cited for their outstanding leadership for efficient reason and highly meritorious services in the field of journalism spearheaded by Monroe Taclawan, chairman of the Awards and Recognition Committee.

The celebration also marked the release of checks to deceased members of the association amounting to P3,802,520 for 27 beneficiaries.

A thanksgiving mass was held to mark the anniversary at the shrine of the Brown Madonna along KM 7, Asin Road on July 27 dedicated to the Kafagway Journalism Honorees and to the whole BARP Foundation.

BARP Foundation is the leading elderly association in the city and the Cordilleras established on July 24,199 by Federico Balanag.

The association is a member of the World Association of Non-Governmental Organizations and also member of the Baguio NGO Multi-Sectoral Council, Inc.

It is patterned after the American Association of Retired Persons and an affiliate of the Philippine Association of Retired Persons and Coalition of Services for Elderly. (Maria Lourdes G. Martin, Phiny Jean V. Sagucio and Jessielyn L. Duran/ISU-Echague Intern)
