BAGUIO Vice Mayor Edison Bilog appealed to the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) to implement the anti-illegal vending ordinance of the Summer Capital in a peaceful and humane manner.

"Kung pwede naman po sana magkaroon po sana ng maximum tolerance sa pagimplement ng ating anti-peddling ordinance," Bilog stressed to the POSD during Monday's flag ceremony.

Bilog added the implementation should not involve any form of violence and violation of human rights such as mauling and taking home confiscated goods from illegal vendors.

The acting city mayor sympathized with the family of a vendor in the public market who was allegedly maltreated and mauled to death by POSD personnel.

Bilog also clarified issues that he has been tolerating violations of illegal vendors.

"Hindi po nating tinotolerate ang ano mang violation ng mga ordinansa o batas sa lungsod ng Baguio," he stressed.

Bilog added there is no protection against illegal peddlers, instead "ang binibigyan lang natin ng proteksyon ay ang karapatang pantao ng mga vendors".

Aside from the POSD, Bilog also asked the help of the Baguio City Police Office to continuously monitor peace and order in the city.

Furthermore, Bilog called the market and sidewalk vendors along the central business district to be more disciplined and responsible enough to follow the rules accordingly to avoid conflict with the law enforcers.

A murder case was recently filed by the family of the deceased vendor against POSD personnel.

According to Bilog, although the preliminary investigation is stil pending, the City Prosecutors Office assured they will also work on the case immediately.

The vice mayor will be the acting city mayor for 15 days while mayor Mauricio Domogan is in the US for an official business.
