THE Philippine Information Agency together with Department of Environment and Natural Resources are heading a Climate Change Advocacy Campaign to promote awareness on climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Students of the Special Performance for the Arts (SPA) of Baguio City National High School participated in a Forum Climate Change Adaptation and Nation Building Advocacy with the theme "Nagbabago na ang Panahon, Panahon na para Magbago", organized by PIA-DENR and Pilipinas Natin.
Another part of the campaign is the “Arts for a Nature Fest” wherein the students created works of arts focusing on the said theme.
“The youth has an important role in the protection of Mother Earth and the Special Arts Program is chosen for the program so their voices through arts can also be heard,” BCNHS Principal Dr. Elma Donaal said.
Baguio City Public Information Officer Ramon Dacawi hopes the SPA class can bring down the meaning of climate change which can be understood by young children. He talked about climate change and mentioned the Gaia Theory of James Lovelock that all living things are connected to non-living things.
Invictus Buenaventura from Pilipinas Natin shared about his personal experience as a teen, talked about his fulfillment from passion and service, and empowers the volunteerism and leadership to motivate the SPA students.
The campaign engaged the students in the youth’s role in climate change and expressed their views in timely events related to climate change in the form of artworks. (Maria Lourdes G. Martin/Isabela State University-Echague Intern)
