THE P14.7-million rehabilitation of the Athletic Bowl is about to begin as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) opens the bidding for the project.

With a contract identification of 14PD0022, the work includes the rehabilitation of the grand stand and the construction of new office spaces under the bleacher stands.

Bidders may acquire the bid documents from July 22 to August 12. Deadline of submission of bids will be on August 12, 2014.

"This is on top of what the city is planning to infuse into the Athletic Bowl refurbishment," Baguio Representative Nicasio Aliping Jr. said.

Despite the elimination of the Priority Development and Assistance Fund (PDAF), Aliping was able to work out the funding for the project with the DPWH and was incorporated into the 2014 General Appropriations Act.

Aliping is a member of the committee on public works of the House of Representatives.

"We very much wanted to fix the Athletic Bowl so regional, national and even international sporting events could be hosted by the city," Aliping said.

"Rest assured that by next year another P20 million will be made available for the continuation of the rehabilitation of Athletic Bowl," the lawmaker added. (PR)
