LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Police Regional Office Cordillera director Chief Superintendent Isagani Nerez said he will not tolerate erring cops.

The regional top cop said he is inclined to take in suggestions to have the Cordillera police force undergo re-training, after the shooting incident involving Valley cop Police Officer 2 Frenzel Mendoza, which left two dead and one injured in a local bar last week.

Nerez said Mendoza now faces double murder charges as well as frustrated homicide raps now in local courts aside from an administrative case which may lead to separation from the force.

Mendoza shot and killed Midtown Bar co-owner Cesar Palitog Degay and security personnel Sonny Caswang Awingan last week while injuring Reymar Cosendo Copis in a bar brawl.

“We will do everything to give justice to the families of the victims of the crime,” Nerez said

Mendoza was accompanied by three other policemen from the province capital during the incident and all of them were immediately relieved from office and are now in Camp Dangwa.

“Napaka hirap pumasok sa PNP, nakaka pang hinayang na ganito ang nangyari,” Nerez said.

The Cordillera top cop said police officers are discouraged from entering drinking places like bars and night clubs when off duty, and carrying the issued service weapon is likewise a big mistake.
Mendoza, along with the three other cops was all off duty when the crime happened.

Nerez said the actions of erring policemen has made the image of entire force darker and set the police as a bad influence in society.
“Let this be a lesson to all policemen in the organization,” Nerez said.

The chain effect of the actions of Mendoza has brought down his direct supervisor, La Trinidad, Chief of Police Byron Allatog, who was likewise relieved from duty.

Nerez said Allatog has the command responsibility over the policemen and it is but just to relive him. “Siya bilang chief of police is mandated to supervise these policemen,” added Nerez.

Allatog, in a twist of fate, may also face administrative charges which have overshadowed his otherwise spotless record which has won him the prestigious Metrobank search for Country’s Outstanding Police Officers in Service recently.

Allatog was chosen to be among 10 top policemen in the nationwide search.
