TAM-AWAN Village Artist Art Lozano is set for a one-man show in Manila.
Lozano will feature 13 of his latest works at the Renaissance Art Gallery in SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. It will be the first solo show of artists outside the region.
An artist from the Ilocos region and part of the Tam-Awan Group of Artists (TVA), Lozano over the years has evolved into an artist who uses the environment around him to reflect in his chosen canvas.
The show at the Renaissance Art Gallery opens on August 20 and runs until the end of the month.
Lozano's work reflects his eclectic style using variety mediums available, playing on current events in society as well as his reflections on the plight of his countrymen.
Through his work, Lozano evokes both a soft nationalism as well his advocacy on the environment, using his masterpieces to evoke emotions, to question, to reflect or at the least, to compel you stop...look and eventually take action.
Lozano hopes to become a reflection of realities close to him, both of highland community where he has grown as well as the areas he has immersed in.
In his spare time, Lozano teaches children all over the country the art and economic benefits of mono print design in the hope that through the craft, the next generation of artists will be inspired to venture in the arts with a means to sustain their passion.
Lozano recently won in the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) art awards proving the brilliance of regional talent.
Lozano bagged third place in the prestigious GSIS Mixed Media category for his piece "Kalawang na Syudad," using his new medium galvanized iron sheets as his canvas.
Lozano said the quintessential "Yero" is a symbol to portray the struggles of the poor, as the material is used to construct most of the homes in the deprived areas. (Maria Elena Catajan)
