AUTHORITIES arrested recently illegal loggers in Mankayan, Benguet.
The arrest was made through tips from Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) informing the police in the ongoing illegal logging activities at Sitio Li-atan, Guinaoang.
A police team led by SPO4 Ahop Caliguing collared Roland Otinguey Juliano, 45, small scale miner and a resident of Panat, Suyoc, Mankayan, Benguet; Francis Sab-it Buli-e, 48, and Paul Son Paat Kabasen, 28, a native of Lamagan, Buguias, Benguet, both farmers and residents of Gueday, Suyoc, August 18.
The trio failed to show any cutting permit and certificate of registration of their chainsaw in violation of the Forestry Code of the Philippines.
The intensified anti-illegal logging operations of police are part of a campaign to save the forest covers of the province from loggers who proliferate in the province.
Illegal logging remains to be a top concern for the province, which has reported activities in its protected forest covers as well as watersheds.
Chief Superintendent Isagani Nerez, Police Regional Office–Cordillera regional director, said the continuous support of the public on the campaign of law enforcers against illegal activities have generated positive results with the successive arrests of various criminals in the different parts of the region.
Police are now batting for deeper coordination between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to thwart the activity as well as collar those involved in the cutting of trees.
