THE CITY Government is hosting a medical mission today, Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Baguio Convention Center as part of Baguio Day celebrations.

Councilor Elmer Datuin, co-chair of the Baguio Day Executive Committee, said thousands are expected to avail of the free medical consultations including dental and optical services to be rendered by volunteer medical practitioners from both government and private institutions.

Now on its 3rd year, the medical outreach was institutionalized as one of the humanitarian programs of the foundation day celebration chaired by Mayor Mauricio Domogan.

Acting City Health officer Dr. Rowena Galpo and City Hall physician Dr. John Tinoyan, chair and coordinator, respectively, of the mission, said the medical consultations will be conducted by doctors from the City Health Department, the Rotary Club of Summer Capital and the Lions Club.

Free medicines courtesy of Victory Liner, the Department of Health Cordillera and the Baguio City Emergency Services will be distributed to the patients.

Dental services, which include tooth extraction, will be done by volunteers from the Philippine Dental Association Baguio. They will also conduct free lectures on dental care and hygiene.

Datuin said some 4,000 indigent patients have been pre-selected by the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Office led by head Betty Fangasan to avail of the services and more patients are expected from the various barangays as coordinated by Association of Barangay Councils president Councilor Michael Lawana.

As of press time, the city is also enlisting the assistance of medical practitioners from the Baguio-Benguet Medical Society for the mission.

The outreach is also supported by the various civic groups including the Baguio-Benguet Public Information and Civic Action Group, which will assist in crowd control and in providing security for the patients and service providers along with the BCEMS, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Council, the Philippine National Red Cross Baguio, the City Sports Division and other volunteers.
