Summer in Baguio activities continue

THE “Summer Vacation (Sumvac) in Baguio” spectacle continues here with religious, historical, arts and sports activities in line this week.

Baguio City Councilor Elmer Datuin and city administrator Carlos Canilao said the religious offerings last Holy Week are topbilled by the inter-faith Easter Sunrise worship rites held on Easter Sunday at the Malcolm Square and the Mega Senakulo presented by the Alpha-Omega Theatrical Production last April 9 to 11 at the Melvin Jones were successful.

The Easter Sunrise program was highlighted by prayers of reflections, thanksgiving, intercession and worship with United Methodist Church Bishop Rudy Juan as guest.

The activity was spearheaded by the Baguio-Benguet Ecumenical Group and the Baguio Character City Council represented by Reverend Abraham Kuis, Dr. Philian Weygan and Erlinda Tindo.

Datuin said the three-night Mega Senakulo which was staged in the city for the first time, drew an SRO crowd with its cast.

The play depicting the life and sufferings of Jesus Christ featured a cast of 250 actors and was shown for free.

Religious fares continue this week with the Jehovah’s Witnesses Annual Circuit Assemblies on April 22 to 23 at the Baguio Convention Center from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the 2nd North Luzon Kids for Christ Family Conference also at the Baguio Convention Center on April 28 to 30 from 8 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., 7 a.m to 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

On April 27 to 29, the Israel-Philippines Festival Baguio Leg will be staged at the Melvin Jones grandstand.

The festival is in celebration of Israel and the Philippines’ friendship and will bring pastors, ministers, leaders and support staff to Israel to be part of the World Camp for Jesus and will feature a concert by world-renowned gospel singer Paul Wilbur.

On April 27, the city will commemorate a special day in its history, the Baguio Liberation Day with a program to be led by the city’s veterans and the city government through Councilor Peter Fianza.

Sports events lined up are the Foamy Fun Run on April 23 at the Athletic Bowl at 5 a.m. Sumvac 2017 Bowling Cup on April 28 to 29 at St. Vincent Lanes, Archery Summer Clinic at Archery Range from April 12 to the whole of May and the Batalympics on April 29 at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.

On April 28, the Saint Andrew’s Theological Seminary will hold a chorale concert at the Cathedral of the Resurrection at 6 p.m.

Trainings lined up this week are Pastoral Care Seminar @ Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary at 8 a.m., April 23, International Seminar-Workshop on Early Childhood Education at Cooyesan Hotel Plaza at 8 a.m. on April 24 and “Int’l Strategic Management” Training for Teachers and School Heads at the Baguio Convention Center on April 24 to 26.

On May 1, the City Government through the Public Employment Services Office (Peso) will hold against the Peso Job Fair at the Baguio Convention Center in line with the observance of Labor Day.

Other May activities are 13th IPMS Baguio Invitational at SM City Baguio on May 8 at 10 a.m., 1st Vantage Organic Farming Farmers Congress at the Baguio Convention Center, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 3, National Seminar-Workshop on Teaching Mathematics in the K to 12, May 4 at Crown Legacy Hotel, Kisad Road at 8 a.m., and City Hall Employees “Mini-Olympics and Fun Games” at Baguio Convention Center, May 5 at 7 a.m.

Learn to Swim Program at the Baguio Swimming Pool the whole of May, Muay Thai Summer Clinic at the Philippine Military Academy and the Baguio Summer Carshow Festival at the Baguio Athletic Bowl on May 5 to 7.

The car show will be sponsored by the Lig ng mga Barangay Baguio chpated headed by Councilor Michael Lawana and will feature brand new cars, hybrid cars and concept cars launches from the country’s top automotive brands, state-of-the-art auto parts and electronic gadget exhibits, motorsports clinic and demos and on-and-off road test drives.
