Thursday, August 10, 2017

TO CATER to the needs of the citizenry and to get closer to the grassroots, six social welfare field units were established in Baguio City.

The six field units were established in Pacdal, Scout Barrio, Bakakeng Central, Youth Home and Family Life Resource Center at Kayang, and Bayan Park Senior Citizens Center.

In his State of the City Address, Mayor Mauricio Domogan said that 1,253 identified poor families were facilitated.

The units also provided the opportunity of the field staff to closely monitor the needs as well as track the improvement of the identified clientele receiving social intervention, thus, it has strengthened community based coordination.

“Under our child development program, 95 percent of all barangays already have child development center for three to four year old children. This is in line with our desire for improved, affordable, accessible and community-based early childhood development centers,” stressed the mayor.

Domogan disclosed the city was recently selected as one of the four finalists among all local government units as a child-friendly city.

The local chief executive underscored that with the campaign for a drug free society, the city has strengthened its Persons with Substance Use Disorder (PSUDs) through the Integrated Participatory Community Building program.

A community based drug rehabilitation activity was implemented for 543 identified PSUDs who were profiled and have undergone psycho education.

A total of 294 PSUDs have actually completed the sessions. The integrated drug rehabilitation program holds a promise for a new chance for a normal social life of determined reformists.

Meanwhile, the city social welfare development office has always been the front line of service delivery, particularly those concerning immediate relief and assistance during and in the aftermath of man-made and natural disaster and calamities as well as providing livelihood assistance to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants.

The City Government has been implementing welfare programs for persons with disability, elderly, victims of drug addiction, rehabilitation of prisoners and parolees, prevention of juvenile delinquents and other activities that would eliminate, if not minimize the ill effects of poverty. (PR)
