A SERIES of trainings for tourism stakeholders is being done in a bid to better serve the public.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) is launching the tourism industry skills program aiming to empower the sector to provide customer satisfaction, meeting service standards, increasing employment, improving income opportunities, increase competitiveness and tourist arrivals.
DOT Regional director Venus Tan said the trainings are part of improving the skill set of stakeholders in order to better services which will translate into satisfied visitors.
Tan said the tourism industry sector of the region needs to upgrade and retool skills in order to respond to the demands of the times.
The tourism industry is eyed to be one of the major economic drivers of the country with its reach going to the farthest villages because of the tourism attractions it holds, giving a chance to boost its local economy and employment.
The region wide program has trainings in Kiangan, Ifugao which centers on housekeeping and service excellence, tourism innovation and enterprise program as well as costumer service.
In Kalinga, trainings on tour provision and standards with a course for front desk operations, transport training, eco-tourism/ adventure tourism, product development enhancement, housekeeping and services as well as entrepreneurship development.
For Benguet, there will be trainings on product development, store layouting and visual merchandising, food and beverage training and a course on housekeeping and service excellence.
There also trainings lined up for Hungduan, Sagada, Tinglayan and the BLISTT (Baguio, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay) area. (Maria Elena Catajan)
