A SUSPECTED member of the New People’s Army (NPA) based in Abra was killed in a gunfight with government troops Sunday morning, February 11.
Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Baluga, commanding officer of 24th Infantry Battalion, said the incident occurred in Sunday morning in Sitio Mabongtot, Barangay Ududia, Sallapadan, Abra, while government troops were conducting patrol in the area.
Baluga said members of the Charlie Company of the 24th IB were conducting foot patrol when an almost 20-minute firefight ensued between the government troops and suspected rebels believed to be under the KLG north Abra.
Recovered after the firefight were two M16 rifle with serial numbers 167374, 247073, and another M16 with defaced serial number, a carbine rifle, and a two–way radio.
Prior to the encounter, the troops also clashed with suspected NPA rebels in the province of Abra and Kalinga.
