CORDILLERA police continue to go relentless against illegal gamblers with the arrest of 16 in the different parts of the region.
From January to February 11, the Police Regional Office conducted five separate anti-illegal gambling operations and confiscated P6,419.50 worth of cash bets, as well as gambling paraphernalia.
In its most recent operation conducted February 11, Cesar Padua and five other females were collared while in the act of playing bingo games in Purok 1 Middle Rock Quary, Baguio City.
Gambling paraphernalia, consisting of bingo chips, cards and assorted coins of undetermined amount, were confiscated during the operation.
In Abra province, two gambling operators were arrested while operating a drop ball game in Barangay Poblacion, San Isidro, Abra, last February 5.
Arrested during the operation were Freddie Bernardo Dela Rosa, 25, farmer, Samuel Campos Esguerra, 22, both residents of Barangay Villa-Rey, Piat, Cagayan.
Confiscated from their possession were gambling paraphernalia and bet money amounting to P850 in different denominations.
The illegal gamblers caught during other operations along with confiscated items are now under the custody of the different police units for documentation and disposition, while a case for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 are being filed against the suspects in court.
Police Regional Office-Cordillera Director Edward Carranza reminded the public to refrain from operating illegal gambling, as they will be meted with the corresponding charges and penalties under the law.
"Our campaign against illegal gambling will continue to crack down on syndicates who operate jueteng, and other illegal numbers game in the region along with their and protectors," Carranza said.
