THERE is no change in plans concerning the establishment of a landfill at Sto. Tomas.
In his regular department heads meeting Tuesday, Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan said he has not abandoned plans of using the Sto. Tomas property.

He said the option of using the Antamoc open pit as alternative dumping area is for short term only because he wants a total stop in the hauling of garbage to Capas town in Tarlac.
Since preparing the Sto. Tomas property takes time, the idea of using Antamoc has been brought up, the mayor said.
This early, however, Itogon Mayor Oscar Camantiles rejected the idea. He said the Benguet Corporation should have offered the site to them first, before offering it to the local government of Baguio.
Nine members of the council earlier urged Domogan to convene concerned sectors so they will be informed about the mayor’s plans regarding solid waste disposal. They claim they are confused and are clueless on what direction the mayor is headed.
They even debated about a Sun.Star Baguio banner story last Sept. 3 claiming they do not intend to criticize the mayor but only to be clarified about the issue.
In response, the mayor said his direction is to pursue the Sto. Tomas landfill. He also assured that whatever his decision will be, the City Council will be informed.
The mayor also announced plans to purchase additional brand new dump trucks and the latest technology that processes biodegradable waste into compost to address solid waste disposal. (Rimaliza Opiña)
