DepEd-Baguio Conducts 2011 Mathematics Festival-A A +A

THE DEPARTMENT of Education Baguio City Division in coordination with the Baguio City Association of Math Teachers (BCAMT) will be conducting the 2011 Mathematics Festival with the theme, "Moving Forward through Excellence in Mathematics" on October 8, 2011 and October 15, 2011 at Baguio Central School for the Elementary and Baguio City National High School for the Secondary.
This activity aims to encourage pupils and students to master the basic mathematics skills and to enhance their interest in mathematics to strive for excellence. Dr. Ellen B. Donato, the Schools Division Superintendent, signed already the Division Memorandum No. 66, s. 2011.
This Mathematics Festival is yearly done to select participants to the Regional Math and Science Festival and to promote leadership, collaboration, cooperation, sportsmanship, and camaraderie among participants.
To make this year's festival more exciting, there are additional activities aside from the usual Math Quiz (written & oral) and Damath competition. These are the Math Trail Problem Solving for. the Secondary; Sudoku Challenge (Elementary, Secondary and Professional Group); Math Investigatory Projects; Action Research in Mathematics; and Strategies Intervention Materials (SIM) for teachers.
The composition of professional group in the sudoku challenge will be teachers, college students and other professionals. Hence, invitation is extended to them.
Elementary teachers who will participate in the professional group will join at Baguio Central School while secondary teachers, college students and other professionals will join at Baguio City National High School.
Submission of list of participants will be on September 30, 2011 at the Division Office through Mrs. Teresita D. Mayam, Education Program Specialist - Mathematics.
In order to ensure the smooth conduct of the competition, officers of the BCAMT, Elementary and Secondary Math Officers (Public and Private), District Math Coordinators, and Secondary Coordinators had a meeting last September 15, 2011 at the Quezon Elementary School Conference Hall.
Registration fee is P100 per participant.
