THE Association of Barangay Secretaries will be holding its 1st General Assembly on October 26, 2012, 3pm at the City Hall, Multi-Purpose Hall.

The Association of Barangay Secretaries is an umbrella organization of the Liga ng mga Barangay. The ABS is composed of the appointed secretaries of the 128 barangays of Baguio City. They were federated so as to assist in their needs pertaining to their functions and roles in their respective barangays. The ABS is headed by a set of officers led by Luna Marie Basbas, barangay secretary of South Sanitary Camp Barangay.

The barangay secretaries hold an important position in the barangay as they are the custodian of all the important records of the barangay. Proper custody of such records bring about proper execution of barangay projects and ensure its continuity even after the end of term of the incumbent offices, with the proper turnover of such records to the incoming officials.

The duties and functions of the barangay secretary includes: custody of all records of the Sangguniang Barangay and the barangay assembly meetings, preparation of list of memebrs of barangay assemblies, assist in the preparation of all necessary forms for the conduct of barangay elections, initiatives, referanda or plebiscites in coordination with the COMELEC, assist in the civil registrar in the registration of births, deaths and marriages, keep an updated record of all inhabitants of the barangay, submit reports with regards to the performance of the barangays and all other documents as may be required by government offices and/or agencies, and all other functions as may be needed to assist the barangay council in performing its functions and powers.

The barangay secretary is an appointive position and is under the supervision of the village chief.

Simple as it may, the barangay secretaries do perform an important function in the barangay council. The ABS stands to assist the newly appointed secretaries cope up with their functions, as well as to supplement the members with the requirements that are sought from the barangay by other agencies.

Hon. Joel Alangsab, City Councilor and Liga President enjoins the participation of the barangay secretaries to the said general assembly for them to likewise have an opportunity to express their concerns or suggestions to assist the ABS and the Liga in achieving the purposes and goals of the barangays.

The Vigor International Security has tapped the assistance of the Liga ng mga Barangay in recruiting qualified security guards for training and possible job opportunities should they pass the screening. The training is for free and at no expense to the applicant. Hon. Joel Alangsab, Liga President is enjoining those qualified to take advantage of this opportunity for employment. The training and screening is open to any male or female aged 18 to 45 years old.

All interested applicants may proceed to the Office of the Liga ng mga Barangay, Office of Hon. Joel Alangsab, City Hall, Baguio City, for queries or for submission of application.
