Baguio got talent

AS YOU will be reading this, I would be on my way back from Luna in Apayao, where the regional athletic meet is being held. I will predict that the kids from Baguio will surely defend themselves as regional champs once more. The delegation from the city left last Saturday at 6pm and arrived the following day in the meet venue at 8am. That would have been a 14hr trip for all our kids. Not only do our kids sacrifice themselves for such long journeys, weeks before they already braved various challenges.
Allow me to share, venue for practice have all been restricted because of the flower festival. Despite such issues these kids find ways all just to ensure victory and defend their over-all crown. Children representing their own schools now team up as one for the pride of our city.
Other than the long and dangerous trip they will find themselves staying in school buildings that serve as their temporary housing while in the area. Braving the weather unlike that of our own. We are so blessed with so much talent from our kids. The sacrifices they make, and making the long journey all well worth it.
I'm just one of the parents who always in the beginning of such trips are anxious and definitely praying for a safe journey. The prayers we make bring strength and confidence to these children of ours. I made my prayers for a safe journey, I prayed also for the Lord blessing all those who have made sacrifices, like their school teachers who not only accompany these kids but also make sure that they are all in the best of condition.
Believe me when I say that these teachers also do the cooking for everyone. And I tell you there's nothing like partaking of their fried chicken, pinakbet, pork chop and nilagang baboy. I know of all these because that is the very reason I have faith in all of them. I know I can leave my child with them; knowing all too well they will be in good hands. God bless them.
I will journey going to Apayao to see my son and also all others as I have when I was the father to them all at one time. I would not have wanted to make the very long trip, but I’ve never been that far in the region. I have been to every other place except for Apayao. I'm saddened for not seeing any one from the city government bidding these kids a safe trip and farewell. Since I have done so for many years I just find it normal for me to continue doing so.
I'm so glad I joined the send-off; I saw friends, parents just like us making sure all would be well. Thank God for all the teachers and coaches. The drivers too for a safe trip despite little sleep or rest. Our kids have all these God-given talents because of you. While I too will go through such a long journey, I know I can endure because all these kids have.
Thank God too for my cousin Ton, who always finds the time to accompany me and give inspiration to my son and the many others. All these God-given talents make me proud to say that there is so much that Baguio has. Congratulations to DepEd Baguio, the wonderful and ever supportive parents and the ever talented Champions, our children the athletes. Mabuhay kayong lahat.
