AT THIS time of the school year when everyone is heavy with the truckloads of school work, one may suddenly realize that summer vacation is just around the corner. The much awaited break we need most has come.
Summer -- the time of the year that breaks the monotony of daily routine and chores, and also the time to relax after all the pressures and hardships of work we go through whether in school or at home. But let us not just view summer as a time for relaxation and enjoyment. Instead let us just use it to evaluate all things we have accomplished and make an assessment of them.
Spending summer basically depends on you. Visiting friends and classmates will be fun, for it will revive the essence of camaraderie and memories of the past. If you have enough bucks to spend, visit relatives in the province and feel and enjoy the pleasures of rural life.
There is a thousand and one way of enjoying summer vacation. One has only to be creative to enjoy fully the summer of each year. The word summer brings to mind the beaches, outings, picnics, movies and a lot more, all for the much needed respite after a school year of hard work. I’ll bet my peso, all of us will be hooked on one of these this summer, unless of course if you are taking a nine unit load of summer classes in some university.
You may wonder what this summer has in store for you. You may decide to tuck yourself in bed all day long (in preparation for the coming sleepless school year) or you could pay a visit to some of the commercial centers in the city or bound home to the provinces. Better still go abroad and visit places.
Regarding the aspirants on some government positions, since some of these people may not be familiar to us, summer vacation is a perfect time to know who these men and women are. Try listening to their campaign speeches and attending meetings. Seriously now, on that important date in May, let us remember that we are determining the children’s tomorrow with our signature. Let us vote wisely.
Summer offers countless opportunities. It is up to us to spend it wisely and make it memorable.
After summer, comes the rainy season and it well be back to school once more. And the end of summer will be enrolment time once more. It will be back to sweats and headaches. Hope it’s not as irritating and confusing as it was before.
