THE Rotary International District 3790 Cluster-1C is set to conduct a series of activities before the end of the month as its way of joining in the celebration of Baguio Day on September 1.
According to RI District 3790 Cluster-1C Assistant Governor Lyman Salvador one of the highlights of their activities was the implementation of their community service project for health which is the Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) for male above 40 years old conducted on Thursday at the Baguio City Hall Clinic with the male city hall employees as the beneficiaries.
Dr. John Tinoyan who has been a partner of rotary in many of its medical missions for years even in the far flung communities also extended his assistance in the project.
The DRE purpose is to identify whether a patient has a prostate cancer or colon cancer. It is also used for the detection of rectal polyps.
RI District 3790 Cluster- 1C Secretary Audrey “Olay” Sungduan said such activity is in line with the RI’s theme “Engage Rotary, Change Lives” under the leadership of RY 2013-2014 President Ron D. Burton.
“We commit to provide service excellence through diversified programs giving meaning to the rotary international theme,” Sungduan said.
The cluster is also set to partner with Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC) in a calendared medical-dental mission before the end of September through the services needed for such endeavor.
All these rotary activities are in answer to the call of RI president Burton which is to make Rotary become real in their own life as this also means that they likewise change the lives of the people around them, change lives of people in their community, and change lives of people around the world.
Meanwhile, members of the said cluster which is composed of the rotary clubs in Baguio, La Trinidad, and Sagada are now preparing for their participation for the Baguio Day celebration Parade on Sunday, September 1 which will be lead by District 3790 Governor Linda Winter.
Also included as a big activity for the district is the conduct of RYLA in Baguio, which is expected to be attended by hundreds of Rotarians and Rotaracts in District 3790. Another pursuit is a seminar on the topic "Strengthening Rotary" on August 29, Thursday with Past District Governor Oyan Villanueva as the guest of honor and speaker.
The Rotary through the years has been playing a very important role in the community. This is through its Community Service covering health programs and environmental protection projects. Another is their Vocational Service Projects which include scholarships for the poor but deserving students.
They have been a great partner of the government towards development and they will always will.
As long as there are people that needs help and a community that needs care Rotary will be there to give a helping hand armed with a passion for a service above self.
