Beautiful Baguio-A A +A
All In Good Time

"BEAUTIFUL Baguio, with mountains so grand
Crowned with green pine trees
And sashed with moss so fine.
Beautiful white lilies and flowers of all kind
Bedeck our mountain sides
Beneath the foggy skies.
Beautiful Baguio, united we stand
Willing to offer our hearts and our hands
A great mountain city with tourists abound
You are a jewel of our dear motherland."
This is and has always been the way I would welcome each and every Juan who comes to visit our very beautiful city. With this welcome I would most often share this poem to try and impress the city upon all those who come. It was such a greeting that many, indeed, felt the sincere welcome from the father of the city. This assured each and every Juan that they, being far away from home, will immediately feel at home.
I would further extend my charm over every Juan by even sharing some traditions from our culture.
One of which was for me to thank Kabunyan for watching over all those who traversed our zigzag roads. I would also tell them that the weather is dependent on me as “father”. For sunny weather, especially during the wedding season, where Baguio is a fave destination, good weather surely will spell the difference of success or failure, a dream wedding or a disaster.
How do I do it? I share the secret of some that by the donation of eggs, yes, eggs, to the Pink Sisters Convent, chances of good weather is possible even for a place where we can find the city in the Book of Lists of having the highest rainfall measurement. But I guess, prayers do work in the city. Praying for the rain is also one thing we can do. How? By banging our gongs we ask Kabunyan for blessings.
This is all made possible because as the father of the city I get to be the chosen one who may command for the rain or sun. Why me? Well, Baguio is the highest city in the Philippines. With this, we also get to the city closest to the heavens, thus being the case, we not have to shout for God’s wonderful blessings, all that we can do is to whisper and HE will grant all this that we ask, just for all those who make it up to this beautiful city.
And that’s how far we go just for all of them. It is my fervent wish that all this be continued if we expect more our visitors and tourists to come.
I have just come back from Boracay. I sure can say it is beautiful, too. But if we don’t get all our acts together, just like PNoy has notice, even beauty does not last forever. I knock on wood, not even to ask HIM for answers or solutions that Baguio will still be beautiful.
To the father of this city, I guess beauty is only in the eye of the beholder. And what is beautiful to one is not necessarily beautiful to another. Let not the ugliness make us the Beast of Baguio but become the BEST once more.
Here’s to more beautiful Baguio years to come.
