Smile-A A +A
Stand Up for Life

SENIOR citizens from the different barangays in Baguio City will have another reason to smile this Saturday. This is because they will be a recipient of a birthday treat from a bighearted family.
It was just four months ago when Police Superintendent Engelbert Soriano celebrated his birthday by giving school supplies and food to at least 100 indigent children in his hometown in barangay San Rafael Abajo Sto. Tomas, Isabela. Tomorrow will be another outreach activity for him and his wife who will be celebrating her birthday with the senior citizens.
Soriano said that it has been their passion to share their blessings to the needy. They always do the activity in celebration of the birthday of a member of his family. For them, birthday is a very important date in their lives.
The upcoming outreach activity beneficiaries were chosen through the help of the Office of City Social Welfare and Officer (OCSWADO) which first approached him to be part of a community service activity by donating resources for a school six years ago.
One hundred senior citizens will be given blankets, bonnets, and socks which is just timely especially that the climate is getting colder in
Baguio as Christmas time approaches. A birthday celebration will not also be complete without food so a simple snack will also be served.
This moment of sharing is also a way of caring to the elderly who should feel more love now that they are in their twilight years. These are the years when we need to let them feel how important they are in our lives. Making them smile is the greatest gift that we can give.
Another couple who often celebrate their birthdays by helping the needy is Dory and Ike Espiritu. Dory is the founder of Ladies Outreach Labor of Love Foundation Inc. that was founded in 2004.
For the couple and the members of the foundation now headed by its President Isabel Lagman, celebrating birthday with the babies and children at the Reception & Study Center for Children (RSCC) in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet is already a part of their calendar. The wonderful moments that they feel whenever they have an activity at RSCC are the reasons why they keep on going back to the place and do more outreach activities.
Such moments like this when you see people smile with little things that you do and touch their lives with your kindness are moments when you also thank God that you are alive. These are the moments that will inspire you to be more passionate in serving the community.
