A UNIQUE sportsfest for people with Disability (PWD) and a cultural presentation dubbed "Kultural-o-rama" by the Baguio City National High School special performing arts department will accentuate the pace of the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Silahis ng Pasko sa Baguio this weekend. The palaro, participated in by adult PWD's will kick off at 7:00 o'clock in the morning with a core of paraplygics seeing action in the kilometer-long wheelathon event along historic South Drive. The starting line is set at Baguio Country Club Road while the finish line is beside the GSP Ating Tahanan Compound. The second event will focus on the walkathon for the blind to be contested by a mixed group of sightless men and women mostly members from Northern Luzon Association for the Blind. To insure safety measures during the battle of wits and muscles, each contestant is provided with a clapper. Traffic officers along the route have been arranged.
Handsome cash incentive prizes are at stake for the three top winners in the wheelathon and walkathon events. The first prize is pegged at P1, 200, the second at P1, 000, while the third placers get P500 each. All the individual players who will finish the race will receive a consolation prize of P200 each, courtesy of the City Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Betty Fangasan, my co-chairperson in the monthlong serves of activities of Silahis ng Pasko sa Baguio.
This time around, at least 12 sightless players will match talent and skill in the chess tournament scheduled at Justice Malcolm Square. Like in previous years, we have adopted the knockout system as the play format of the special tilt. Similar cash prizes like the wheelathon and walkathon events are also up for the grabs.
To add more fun, fellowship and excitement to the day's Yuletide Season caring and sharing program a PWD palaro featuring traditional Filipino games will also be in the centerfold. The contestants will compete in the pot breaking, balloon bursting, needle threading, cone blowing and banana eating contest events, among others, prizes will be given to the winners. A joint team of event coordinates from the CSWDO and from the National Correspondents Club of Baguio are in the project staffs to make sure that everything will be carried out on the dot and for the enjoyment of the participants as well as the spectators. To all participants, staff members and benefactors of the Special Day for Special People (PWD), maraming salamat po at mabuhay tayong lahat!
Tomorrow, Sunday, the BCNHS Special performing arts troupe will display its wares at Malcolm Square. The curtain go up at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon with a chain of entertainment numbers showcasing Christmas carol songs, rondalla selections, folk and great dances. In a nutshell, the one-hour kultor-o-rama, is better known in Silahis ng Pasko as the singing and dancing Christmas Tree, courtesy of the Baguio-Benguet Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BAMAPCOM) as the event sponsor. Again, we would like to thanks profusely the BAMAPCOM Board of Directors and Engr. Vic Calimlim for their understanding, generosity and invaluable support to insure the success of the endeavor. May their tribe increase!
The Silahis ng Pasko 2013 Lucky Christmas Family of couple Lacquidan from Irisan barangay will be special guest during the afternoon sked. The special quest committee from the CSWDO informed me last Thursday that the Lacquidans earn a living by collecting salable garbage materials.
They have at least five children, the oldest at 15 years old. Happily, the eldest and his younger brother are highschool students at the Upper Quezon Hill High Scholl. The third child in the family is in elementary grades. Their reception prize includes sightseeing tours in and around the city free meals and Christmas gift items.
It's final! Holy mass commemorating the 40th year of Silahis ng Pasko will be held at the Shrine of Brown Madonna along Asin Road, on Dec. 22. This is also SNP Christmas mass with Rev. Fr. Domingo"German" Ledesma as the celebrant. We are again inviting all members of the Silahis ng Pasko family, events participants, sponsors, and supporters to join us in the religious offering which is scheduled at 8:30 o'clock in the morning. Come one, Come all!
On behalf of the NCCB and the CSSWO, may I take this opportunity to thank the Philippine Military Academy for its exemplary PMA Cadets Day at the Park traditional Christmas Season presentation last Sunday.
Indeed, the PMA Class of 2016 wowed the throng of spectators who witnessed their silent drill exhibition at Burnham Park. Even the tourists from Russia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore were extremely thrilled. Of course, our gratitude and appreciation goes to PMA Sipt.
Vice Admiral Edgar L. Abogado for his person concern and active participation in the program. He was the guest of honor and inducting officer of the new set of NCCB officers. He also turned over the project of officers of 3NO Operation Delata Para sa Kapwa, "some 1,300 assorted canned goods for typhoon Yolanda victims. The donation came from the members of the Cadet Corps and the academy's official family.
