All In Good Time

PARENTS are asked to check out the schedule assigned to them. Some are on the first day which is always on a Thursday the other, Friday. Just the week before this, some parents began to grumble and a trip to the Principal's Office for some it will take. Excuses of all sort is the way it will be for this sort. Others will take a path less confrontational but still with the same agenda. There are the religious who pray for their day, there too are the lucky ones who knew it's their day.
Then there are just those who play it the way it should be, blocked schedule for both days it should be. Prepare for long lines for the best view, it is as if one sees anything, it is just too dark. It is where one hears it all that is where it's at.
Some jostle too take the front seating, but it is just not so, though one gets to see the pretty Mary. Downside to this would also be to take smell to that of the goats or sheep. It is in the center where Juan gets to hear it all. It is where the sound is balanced and just alongside the conductors of the choir. It's also where one can be close to royalty, as it is where the Kings all and handsome as can be, will be.
It all begins with a Latin rant that no Juan wants but with a translation to make us understand what the hell is being said. Not unless Juan understands Latin. I do, at least for what has been said. All it takes is an hour and then it’s done, no problem go on with what was previously scheduled before.
An aching neck is what it will take, I say just sit back, relax and close your eyes is all it takes. Let all others rush like they want to the front and complain about what didn't go their way. Others I have heard have even elevated their non- entry to the President, while there were also those who just missed the closing of the doors and find blame to the ushers, traffic police or that unmaintained car, but really it was just the spouse I'm sure.
When it’s over, some will still find fault while others will warm it up with a clap. Just think of this, teaching three thousand kids to sing all at the same time despite having classes is sort of a miracle already, singing well is another story.
But for the kids it is just that. It was never their fault that they were either given parent schedule on a Thursday or a Friday. It also is not their fault that every Juan in the family would also like to watch and witness this miracle.
It was never the children's fault that only two, yes, two tickets will only be given to each student. Lucky you if you also have two students, some do. Let's not forget the countless alumni, retired teachers, balikbayans, lolo and lola all wanting to watch too.
Some musings as to who will be the stars of the show, but rest assured there will be no goats as they are found in front just to finish the grass and chew.
It has been this way for the last forty eight years, crazy it may seem but it's just the way it is. It's simply just a miracle of life. And like life it just continues to move on. I also had my time beginning in eighty one, now it is twenty thirteen I am now audience the last two years to my kids who now seat where I was.
Despite all the busy schedules from parties to buying gifts, every Juan will take time to take some time and listen to thousands of children sharing the Christmas Story. After all it is just what it is, the life of Jesus but in song. Nothing else.
Season's greetings every Juan, and if for some reason you haven't seen one...well count yourself lucky as you never had to go through what we have gone through since nineteen sixty five.
