FINISHING a degree is not the end of the journey. In fact, it is a beginning of something big, a step in finding your dream.
It is also important to note that knowing your passion, talents, needs, and listening to your conscience will lead you the way in fulfilling this dream. Dr. Terry S. David, Head of the Ateneo Professorial Lecturer’s Group in Leadership, Strategy, Human Capital Management & Negotiations, & an Asia-Pacific Business Leadership Educator mentioned this in the 68th Commencement Exercises of the University of the Cordilleras Thursday last week where he served as one of the speakers.
In his inspiring message to the graduates which also motivated those who are already working and have career but still continues to find their dream he said that one very important thing to do is to know what our passion is. Once you discovered it, you should keep it burning.
Another is talent. Passion and talent are intertwined. He said passion brings excellence and brings out the best of who you are and how you can use your God given talent to serve the world.
Understanding your need is also very important. Although everybody needs money the pay is not everything and it is not even part of the top ten reasons why the workforce land in multinational companies wherein the challenges of the job is the number one answer. In that study it also showed that people leave their job because of how their bosses treat them.
Adding passion and talent then you will see the field where you would like to land. But it is essential to understand the jobs the society needs.
He added that in terms of needs as an employee of a corporation or government or an entrepreneur the following should be addressed. Are you being paid fairly? Are your talents used creatively? For your emotional needs, are you being treated kindly? In addressing your spiritual needs, are they helping you serve human needs in principle ways?
The fourth important thing to do is to listen to your conscience. Conscience tells us what is right or wrong serving as a moral compass.
Think big. Find your dream. And when you find it don’t let anyone take it away from you.
