At Close Range

THE recent incident involving the sinking of a Vietnamese marine vessel by the Chinese military in the disputed West Philippine Sea illustrates the giant nation's resolve to fend off any and all intrusions into its perceived territory at all costs.
China will assert its claims, rightly or wrongly, over and above those other claimants' pretensions.
Disregarding even the United Nations' pronouncements and decisions, China is hell-bent on running roughshod over other claimants like Vietnam. Might is right and it relies on its huge military might which rivals even that of the United States. Lately China is arming itself with modern weaponry and technology to the consternation of its neighbors, including Japan, a world power itself.
Let us not ignore the threat China foists on us. As days go by it becomes real and overpowering and we wake up one day the Chinese military will be at our doorsteps.
