A REFRESHERS course is in the work for basketball referees in Baguio City aimed to improve officiating skills by the National Amateur Basketball Referees Association (Nabro)-Baguio City.

Nabro-Baguio local coordinator Edwin Edades said the planned skills upgrading aims to reintroduce new basketball rules as set by the Fédération Internationale de Basketball.

“This program aims to refresh the knowledge of our local referees because of some changes regarding the new set of guidelines to be implemented inside the hard-court,” Edades said.

Edades mentioned aside from accepting current referees to renew their familiarity with basketball, Nabro will also welcome other interested locals to be part of the basketball referee community.

“This will also be an open invitation sa lahat ng mga interesadong maging profession ang pagiging referee ng basketball, so with the organizers of the seminar we are working to target new members lalo na dito sa locality natin,” Edades said.

He said even local coaches are invited as it will also be a good help in teaching basketball to their athletes.

“Hindi lang naman ito sa mga referees actually it can also be applied sa coaching and even interested college athletes who plan to pursue a coaching career may also learn from the activity,” Edades added.

According to Edades, Manila based international referees will be the instructors for the seminar slated July.

Edades said the group is alos planning a separate coaching seminar.
“Perhaps by the end of this week the organizers will be finalizing the program for the activity. According to them baka possible din na mag-hold ng coaching seminar but as of now we are sticking to the scheduled activity para sa mga referee,” Edades quipped.
