The celebration will climax with a cultural show of provincial folk dances and songs and a free raffle of handsome prizes. Again we are reminding BARP’s rank and file to attend the historic and joyous event. Oh, yes a thanksgiving mass to mark the anniversary rites will be held at the shrine of the Brown Madonna along KM 7, Asin Road on July 27. The Holy mass is also dedicated to the Kafagway Journalism Honorees and the whole membership of the BARP Foundation. The mass is scheduled at 8:30 am with Rev. Fr. German Ledesma as the celebrant.

Thank you to the teacher-scouters of the Scouting Family of Don Bosco Baguio City, Inc. for their kind invitation for me to grace the joint BSP-GSP investiture ceremony scheduled on July 25, this month at the institution’s Mama Mary’s Hall. By the way, the school’s Director is Rev. Fr. Joseph Paduyao, also the parish priest of Don Bosco Church. From any perspective, the forthcoming special event is a big affair. Personally, scouting is a way of life and it starts with the investiture of the scout and the scouter into the World Scouting Movement founded by the late Sir Baden Powell at the start of the 19th century. BP was a retired General from the United Kingdom Military Expeditionary Force who served with honor and distinction in Africa. His experiences with the people, places and events while in the service ignites his unfathomable interest and enthusiasm to organize the youth movement after his scouting experiment on Brownsea Island, a mile off the coast of London in the summer of 1908. True to his desire and ambition, the first Boy Scout troops were organized in England. A good turn from an unknown Boy Scout brought scouting to America. The history of the movement tells us that scouting was introduced in the Philippines as early as 1914. A certain Lt. Spencer from the United State Armed Forces in the Philippines organized the first Filipino troop composed of 18 Muslim boys while assigned in Jolo. There are reports that at almost the same time, the Rotary Club of Manila also organized Boy Scout troops in Manila, then under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Council, Boy Scouts of America. The independent Boy Scouts of the Philippines was formally inaugurated in 1938 through the passage of Commonwealth Act no. 111 on October 31, 1936 with the late Assemblyman Tomas Confessor from Iloilo province as the main author.
