Editorial: Family month-A A +A
Wednesday, September 3, 2014
THE Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Office iterated its call to the barangays to join the search for child friendly villages.
This as they announced the deadline of entries on September 15.
According to the CSWDO, the search will highlight Children’s month celebrated every October.
But before Children’s Month is celebrated, September is Family Month.
Different activities were organized by the City Government and its partners which all aim to foster good relations between families and in the process strengthen relations in the community.
Families, nowadays, are challenged, from financial constraints to physical and sexual abuses to very young pregnancies.
Efforts to address these are welcome.
But when efforts fail, where does one turn?
Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda mentioned a simple step in addressing issues within families in yesterday’s Kapihan sa Baguio.
While not delving into the more in-depth application of processing, especially in Psychology, processing has become an important feature in good relations.
Simply, processing means taking the time to discuss an impactful event or even something as ordinary as a teleserye and see how this will affect you and your future decisions in life.
While this will prove difficult in dysfunctional families, it is highlighted that a lot of problems are averted by having the proper channels of communication.
True what they say, sometimes you just need to let off steam, to have a shoulder to cry on.
Perhaps this Family Month we can try and be that shoulder first.
