Marvil: New measures passed on first reading

THE City Council of Baguio last Monday approved on first reading several proposals introduced by its members which seek to safeguard the interest of the residents of the city. Vice Mayor Edison Bilog filed Proposed Ordinance No. 0148-17 entitled, “Prohibiting all gasoline stations, auto repair and carwash shops and all other similar establishments from discharging motor oils, petroleum products and untreated wastes into the soil and waterways and providing penalties for violations thereof.” Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr. on the other hand filed two new measures, Proposed Ordinance No. 0149-17 entitled, “Prohibiting any private individual from collecting parking fees or any form of payment from motorists for temporarily parking along public roads, streets and other public places within the City of Baguio and providing penalties therefor,” and Proposed Ordinance No. 0151-17 entitled, “Establishing a City Government crematorium facility in the city and appropriating funds thereof.”

Meanwhile Councilor Lilia Fariñas filed Proposed Ordinance No. 0152-17 entitled, “Requesting the City Engineering Office, in cooperation with the Department of Public Works and Highways, and members of the Traffic and Transport Management Committee to study the possibility of installing ‘safety-impact tires’ as last resort against brake failure, along the walls of Buhagan Road (formerly Bokawkan Road) and appropriating the amount of Three Hundred Thousand Pesos or so much thereof for its study and recommendation.” The said proposals were approved on first reading and forwarded to the proper committees of the city council for further study and deliberations.

Congratulations to the successful opening of the 1st Director Somngi Cup which took place at the covered court of Camp 8 Barangay over the weekend. The said opening of the basketball tournament was graced by no less than BENECO District 1 Director Atty. Esteban Somngi and members of the Liga ng mga Barangay Baguio Chapter headed by Vice President and Andres Bonifacio Punong Barangay Wilbert “Jeepy” Ponce.

An exhibition game between the members of the media and the Liga ng mga Barangay All-Stars later ensued by which the latter prevailed with a score of 81-77. Compliments also to the members of the executive committee headed by Migs Velarde, Camp 8 kagawad Bong Casas, Joseph Lingwayon and Salvador Dela Rosa for a job well done.
