PMA rules 23rd BBEAL arnis tourney

PHILIPPINE Military Academy bested five other schools to rule the arnis competition in the 23rd Baguio - Benguet Educational Athletic League at the PMA covered court over the weekend.

PMA scored seven gold medals, including two silver and one bronze medals, to claim the over-all champion after the sport was made a regular event this year. The country's premier military school also won the over-crown in last year's competition when it was only a demonstration sport.

Saint Louis University bagged five gold medals, one silver and three bronze medal to place second courtesy of Kris Chan, Jessica Velasco, Angelica Garcia, Ryan Macadaeg and Micheal Anayasen.

Nathalie Trinidad took the lone silver medal for SLU while Angelica Gonzales, William Goroi Jr. and Aldin Dela Cruz took the bronze medals.

University of the Cordillera had one gold courtesy of Claire Cadiog while Sharon Fakat, Sheldon Fagsao, Cyrill Apangchan and Alvin Abalos also churned in silver medals with Chirstine Miranda, Rosela Alvarez, Dexter Faroga and Jhoel Salido chipped in bronze medal for a third place finish.

Coming in at fourth is the University of Baguio with a gold medal from Karli Azangui while Aiko Bataclao had silver. Bataclao also won the bronze medal together with Daryl Cawed.

Baguio Central University had a six silver medal finish and three bronze medals to place fifth in the competition.

Major Jose Demar Paule, the tournament director conveyed his congratulations to all the winners, which brought pride and honor to their respected schools during the closing program.

Leo CariƱo, president of Baguio City Arnis Federation said the tournament hopes to promote arnis because it is the Philippines' national sport.
