Politicians not allowed in graduations

Thursday, March 18, 2010

MAYOR Reinaldo Bautista Jr. issued a memorandum forbidding school administrators from inviting politicians as guest speakers on graduation.

City Schools Division Superintendent Ellen Donato received the memorandum saying the occasion should be devoted only to graduates, parents and guardians who struggled to send the graduating students to school.

Bautista said politicians should not be included in occasions such as graduations because they sometimes overshadow the graduates who should be honored during graduation day.

“You are directed to refrain from including politicians in the programs of the graduation rites in the various schools in the city to preserve the solemnity and purity of these occasions,” the mayor said in his memorandum. (Rimaliza Opiña)
