Powerhouse Baguio rules ‘10 Caraa-A A +A

LAGAWE, Ifugao – Baguio City continues its dominance of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) by taking the overall championship crown for the nth time.
Baguio had a total of 800.5 points to win the title in both the secondary and elementary levels after five days of competition held in various locations in Ifugao. Hostilities started February 7 and ended Friday.
Baguio’s secondary athletes also won the overall crown after having 458 points securing first place finishes in archery, athletics, swimming, volleyball, basketball, badminton, chess girls, boxing and football.
In the elementary level, Baguio also dominated the competition with 342.5 points after taking the title in athletics girls, badminton, basketball, gymnastics, lawn tennis boys, swimming, chess, tae kwon do, and football.
Benguet placed second in the overall ranking with 480.5 points lead by the secondary level’s 302 points winning the titles in baseball, sepak takraw, softball, and table tennis boys.
The elementary division almost slipped away from the perennial runner-up who had 178 points with the overall championship in the gymnastics girls and sipa.
Mountain Province took the third place overall scoring 340.5 points with the solid performances of the secondary level winning the lawn tennis girls, and table tennis girls to accumulate 182 points while the elementary level had 158 points to place third in the division with crowns in softball, table tennis, lawn tennis girls, and baseball.
Host team Ifugao is in fourth place overall with 283.5 despite placing fifth in the secondary (134) and elementary (149.5) where they took the title in the volleyball girls over Baguio City.
Kalinga province finished fifth with a total of 268 points where they place fourth in the secondary level with titles in baseball, lawn tennis boys and chess boys while the elementary division landed at sixth after having 123 points.
Abra meanwhile finished sixth with a total of 244 points in the overall standing where the secondary squad was good for 91.5 points while the elementary level placed them at fourth with 152 points after the solid performance of the athletics boys.
Apayao is at seventh with 77.5 points in the overall standing after having 30.5 points in the secondary and 45 points in the elementary level.
The general championships in the elementary and secondary divisions were determined by applying the DepEd point system which was adopted by the region.
Points are assigned to each individual and team event to compute the champions in each sport competition, and each sports event is likewise assigned certain points to determine the championship in that sports event.
