Proposed city charter now in Senate

THE proposed new Baguio City charter is slowly making its way up to the top as Representative Mauricio Domogan said it is now in the Senate.

Domogan said the charter is now on the committee on local government unit chaired Senator Benigno Aquino III.

"Hopefully, Senator Aquino will convene [the committee] to act on this before the start of the campaign [period next year]," Domogan said.

Domogan said two of the more important amendments made in the city charter are the settlement of boundary dispute between Baguio and Tuba and the disposition of alienable and lands.

He said the proposed city charter will minimize if not eliminate land disputes and squatting, adding that the amendment will also address the issue on ownership over town site reservations.

Domogan explained the disposition of alienable lands will be in a way of direct award to the applicant as long as there is no other applicant. However, it will go through bidding if there is more than one.

The bidding will not be public but will be between contesting applicants only.
