SEARCH and retrieval teams recovered the body of John Guinoban, days after the victim and his other companions were declared missing.

The latest victim’s body was recovered 3 p.m. Tuesday at the boundary of Camp 2 and Camp 3 in Tuba by members of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera Regional Mobile Group (PRO-Cor RMG), reported the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) in the region.

Victim Cipriano Millet is still missing. The two victims are among the individuals who were supposed to rescue the five miners who were buried in a mine camp at Kias, Baguio City at the height of Typhoon Kiko last week.

The OCD said the Cordillera Regional Disaster Coordinating Council response teams agreed to suspend the search and retrieval operations at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The search, rescue, and retrieval operations were turned over to the Benguet Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council.

Typhoon Kiko left 16 dead, 12 injured, and one missing. It damaged worth more than P19.5 million to various roads in Baguio, Benguet and Mt. Province.

The typhoon also caused some P6.5 million damages to a school in Benguet, reported the OCD.

Damages to agriculture are still to be determined. Governor Nestor Fongwan earlier said the typhoon’s damages to Benguet’s agriculture would be huge.

The OCD continues to coordinate with the various local disaster coordinating councils on the extent of damages in the region.

Among those who helped in the search and rescue and retrieval operations were the PRO-Cor, the 5th Division Philippine Army, which is based in Gamu, Isabela, the Philippine Military Academy-Disaster Response Task Group (DRTG) and 911 On Call, the Benguet PDCC, the Baguio city disaster coordinating council, Benguet Corporation, Mines and Geo-sciences of the DENR the Department of Health and the Benguet Small-Scale Miners Federation.
