IT'S finally summer!

It's just about the right time for the family to go out and enjoy the luxury of beach resorts, a time for girls to flaunt their feet in with flip-flops together with colorful tank tops and accessories, a time for boys to show off that two hundred peso shades that match their sporty outfit under the sun and yes, it is the time of the year when every child, teenager or even grown up to go out and shop not only for a summer outfit but for a summer workshop.

Walking down Session Road is the perfect place to shop for a workshop which you can be interested in. By merely looking at posters or flyers being distributed along the streets, you will go home with a handful of cool, trendy, artsy, sporty and even classy ideas to spend your summer vacation.

The only thing you need to remember in choosing which workshop you would like to take is a three letter word that will make it all worth it – FUN.

In our city, we have everything covered.

We have workshops on dance, sports, the arts, music. Even technical workshops are being offered which covers directing, acting and hosting! Here are just some of them.

A local dance school, Le Conservatoire de Danse de Ballet, which is an affiliate of Ballet Manila already started with Danse + De Ballet summer intensive 2010.

This workshop welcomes students age 3 ½ and above who are interested in ballet. The school accepts enrollees every day and conduct regular classes.

According to Jacqueline Go, the school's artistic director and choreographer, the difference between the summer program and the regular program is that students attend their classes for only an hour every day.

In the regular program, students only have their lessons during weekends.

Teachers Patricia Fernandez, 14, and Charm Sebastian, 15, who handle beginners said during the summer program they teach only the basic so as to let the students enjoy while still learning.

When asked about the aim or objective of the workshop, Go says “We aim to have the enrollees do a recital at the end of the summer workshop.”
For sport enthusiasts, the UFC Taekwondo Summer Clinic which is hosted by the UFC Taekwondo Martial Arts Academy and the Philippine Taekwondo Association, which is sponsored by Milo, is just one of the many workshops you can join.

With more than a hundred enrollees this summer, the academy is fully packed with energy and excitement brought about by students who patiently wait for their turn to learn the axe kick.

Art junkies are not exempted from the summer fun.

"Bring out the creativity of your kids this summer!" said Racquel Verzosa, an art enthusiast and hobbyist, in her Summer Arts and Crafts Workshop.

Starting April 20, Verzosa will be teaching enrollees painting and crafting, baking and cake decorating, cooking, craft designing, odd-shaped donut making and even desert preparation.

Who knew that you can learn all these in just a week or two?

How about those who are technically inclined and love music and acting?

Well, your fun starts April 27.

Stairs Events Models and Production, in partnership with Gateway Christian Community Church, presents "Summer Time, It’s blooming time."

The workshop offers ballet, acting and hiphop, vocal dynamics for kids aged 4 to 11 years old, hip-hop, jazz, acting and human video, vocal dynamics for teen and adults and directing, and event management and hosting for those who want to pursue a career in this field.

It doesn't stop there. Trainers are from prestigious media outfits and schools outside Baguio.

William Garado, one of the members of Gateway Christian Community Church, says this is a way for the church to reach out and contribute to the community.

Isn’t it amazing to find all these in our city? These are just some of what the city offers this summer. So what are you waiting for, walk around the city and shop for the best summer workshop you can enjoy.
