Restaurateur leads pack in Luisa’s Darts championships

DEFENDING champion Jose Ang will have his hands full as he guns for another crack at the title in the Luisa’s Friendship Darts tournament.

Restaurateur Ang will be once again the heavy favorite in the tournament after topping the eliminations which drew 33 players from all over the Summer Capital.

The singles defending champion scored 20 wins against two loses to lead the pack in the best of three 501 of 16 whose winners will advance to the quarterfinals participated in by Luisa’s regular patrons which include members of the Apache, Jaycees, retirees, contractors and mediamen.

Placing second is July Punay who had 19 wins against 10 loses, followed by former Apache chief Rudy Paraan who chalked a total of 16 wins against seven defeats.

Ranked fourth with a 16-6 card is Mon Bendoy followed by Alex Maday (15-9) and Nap Maranan (15-6). United Baguio-Benguet Contractors Association president Brent Quangdey is at seventh spot with a 14-7 card, followed by Eli Donaal (14-2), Wayne Seo-as (12-11), Romy David (12-10), James Banta (12-6) and Pigeon Lobien (11-9) – the lone media practitioner in the top standings.

The remaining top 16 are: Noli Gabilo (10-8), Jaja Lamaria (10-8), Carl Taawan (9-14) and Jimmy Ku (9-8).

Four will advance to the semifinals with the winners to vie for the title.

Last December, Ang won the title after beating Maranan in the finals 2-nil. Seo-as and Lobien won the doubles side in the last Luisa’s darts, though they are now paired with different darters this time around. (Roderick Osis)
