AS TEAM Lakay braces for another showdown against the country’s best mix martial artists, Eduard Folayang is set to help the team’s chances in securing its place as the best MMA team in the Universal Reality Combat Championship.
Folayang, who is supposed to fight in Abu Dhabi this month, has opted instead to supervise the training of Kevin Belingon who will defend his bantamweight title against Ryan Diaz and pinweight champion Roy Docyogen.
Belingon and Docyogen, who have records of eight wins apiece and with no losses in their MMA careers will be featured in main events on April 2 in the URCC 19 event with Docyogen squaring off against Alvin Ramirez.
Folayang said he was supposed to fight in the Abu Dhabi Fighting Championship slated on the second week of March.
Aside from the two, Honorio Banario, also of the famed Team Lakay, will seek his first title in the URCC as he guns for the lightweight belt of Angelito Manguray, the unbeaten dentist from Davao City with a record of four wins.
“So far yung tinututukan namin sa training nila yung conditioning at skill training,” said Folayang. “As of now nasa 70 percent na sila in terms of condition at medyo malayo pa naman yung laban pero yung mind set nila eh nasa 100 percent na.”
Folayang added he also sees a brighter future ahead for the 21 year old Banario in MMA as he toughens the mix martial artist who has a record of three victories in the URCC. Banario is known to have powerful strikes with vicious takedown skills and well versed in submission.
Meanwhile, Folayang said he will continue to see action in upcoming international mix martial arts events and is being primed up to defend his welterweight title in the URCC later this year.
