Baguio racers shine in slalom invitational

BAGUIO racers made their presence felt anew landing in the podium of the over-all championship in the recently concluded Race Motor Sports Club Slalom Invitational Challenge at the Francisco Ortega Highway in San Fernando City, La Union.

Jet Ramos, Imay Datu and Ramzy Kairuz simply slammed the doors on other slalom racers in the one-day event to claim the third to fifth place finish in the first out of 3 legs for the Slalom Invitational for year 2011.

Ramos of Team JDA BENIL Baguio was third with the time of 41.56 while Datu of BAF got in 4th with a time of 41.64 and 5th Ramzy Kairuz by clocking 41.68 for the fastest times of the day in the event sponsored by Federal Tyres, Shell Helix Motor Oils, Dubshop Magwheels Inc., and Outlast Battery.

Michael Mendoza of Team Tool Box captured the overall, production and front wheel best time by clocking 39.16 in the event also backed by Auto Transporter, Tripnotic Lab Creative Media Experiment, Starbright Body Kits, City Government of San Fernando, Mayor Pablo Ortega, Ed and Rica Regala, Pacoy Ortega, Iggy's Inn, and Sizzling Plate.

Don Calamanan of the same team from Cabanatuan City topped the novice best time of the day by clocking 40.00 while also coming 2nd fastest time for the day.

Slalom racers from Baguio Auto Forum (BAF), Team Special Stage, BARFTECH, Corolla Auto Club Baguio, VW Club Baguio, Team La Union, and privateers from Dagupan, Pangasinan, Tarlac and Metro Manila also joined the affair.

The 3rd leg of the National Slalom series was held Sunday, April 17 at the NFA Compound in Cabanatuan City.

Race Motorsports Club will also hold a 12 leg for the series for the year 2011 and 3 slalom invitationals.

The National Slalom event is affiliated with the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) and FIA and is the longest running motorsport discipline in the country.

The next two legs for the slalom invitational will be on Sept. 17 and Nov. 26 also in San Fernando City, La Union. (Roderick Osis)
