La Salle continues dominance in v’ball tilt

DE LA Salle University (DLSU) scored two straight victories to open its campaign in the women’s division in the ongoing 2011 National Intercollegiate Volleyball Championship in separate venues in La Trinidad, Benguet.
DLSU earlier edged winless Holy Angel University of Pampanga in their morning tussle at the Benguet Capitol open gym in three sets, 25-7, 25-10, 25-18, before edging out Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League defending titlist University of the Cordilleras, 25-20, 25-8, 25-10, at the BSU Gym.
The UC Lady Jaguars, on the other hand, failed to sustain its winning streak after stopping erstwhile rival Saint Louis University in four sets, 22-25, 25–20, 25-14, 25–18, at the Capitol gym.
After a hot start in the opening of the intercollegiate tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Volleyball Federation, the SLU lady Jaguars then faltered against AMA Computer University in the afternoon games at the BSU gym, 25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 25-19.
In the men’s division, last year’s first runner-up De La Salle also made its presence felt by downing Bulacan State University in three sets, 26-24, 25-19, 25-19.
National University also scored its second victory in the tournament by defeating SLU Navigators, 26-24, 25-15, 25-20, in the tournament, which is part of the grassroots development program aimed to create opportunities for students to showcase and enhance their volleyball skills and abilities.
The UC Jaguars, on the other hand, stopped AMACU in five grueling sets, 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 28-26, 15-13 while University of Manila edged Holy Angel University, 25-14, 23-25, 25-18, 25-23.
National College of Business and Arts bounced back from a first day loss by downing Benguet State University 25-17, 25-21, 25-15. (Roderick Osis)
